Earthworks cost

Earthworks

By the hour, or by the job

"What does earthworks cost" is a fair question with a frustrating answer: it depends on the job. Earthworks is usually charged either by the hour (machine and operator) or as a fixed price for a defined job. Here's how it works and what moves the number.

Hourly vs fixed price

Smaller or open-ended work - a day's digging, clearing, general site work - is often charged by the hour for the machine and operator. A defined job with a clear scope - a driveway, a retaining wall, a section prepped to a spec - is usually better as a fixed quote so you know the number up front. We'll tell you which suits your job.

What moves the price

The size of the job and the machine it needs, the access, the ground conditions, how much material has to come in or go out, and the travel to site. A tight, awkward section takes longer than open ground; heavy clay or rock is slower than clean fill.

Why the estimate is free

Because guessing helps nobody. We'd rather look at the site, understand the access and the ground, and give you a straight answer on cost and timing than pluck a number out of the air. Free estimates and quotes, every time.

Earthworks pricing is too site-specific for a rate card. Access, ground and scope decide it - call for a free, straight quote.
