Driveways
What you're really paying for
A gravel - or metal - driveway is one of the most cost-effective ways to get a solid, tidy entrance, but the price swings a lot with the length, the width and what's underneath. Here's what drives the number, and why the cheapest quote often isn't the one that lasts.
It's the base that costs - and lasts
Anyone can tip metal on the ground. The driveways that last are the ones built on a properly formed and compacted base with surface water managed away from it. That groundwork is where the real cost sits, and it's exactly what a cheap job skips - which is why it turns to mud and potholes a season later.
What moves the price
Length and width set the area. Then it's the ground: how much shaping and base build-up it needs, the drainage, and the metal you choose. A long rural driveway and a short townhouse entrance are very different jobs, and the access and site conditions move it again.
Choosing the right metal
Getting the material right for the job matters - it's the difference between a surface that holds and one that scatters or washes. We pick the correct materials for the driveway and manage surface water so metal driveways actually last.

Common questions
Gravel driveway cost
Because most of the cost is under the surface - the shaping, base build-up and drainage. A driveway that's just metal tipped on soft ground is cheap and short-lived; one built on a proper base costs more and lasts.
